Updates to 'Fortran Friends' Polyhedra programs

The upgrading method changed on 1 March 2001

The new method applies only to versions of:

• !PolyDraw version 3.03 onwards
• !PolyNet version 1.07 onwards
• !PolySymm version 4.00 onwards
• !Stellate version 1.01 onwards

Updating Instructions

1. First you must have a valid registered version
2. download and unzip the demo version of the program you want to upgrade:
   PolyDraw (size 417K) PolyNet (size 130K) or Stellate (size 600K) PolySymm (size 456K)
3. Download, unzip and run the upgrade program (143K latest version 20 Feb 2006)
   [Users with floppy only systems should do this in RAM disc]
4. when asked to do so:
   • drag in the filer icon of your registered version [may be on floppy]
   • drag in the filer icon of the demo version you just downloaded [may be on floppy]
   • the demo version will be converted to a full registered version
   • please send us an email telling us of your success (or otherwise), giving the program name, your name, registration number and new version number so that we may keep our records straight.

• version 3.04 allows output of PolyData and POVray data
• version 3.05 is enlarged to accept all data from !Stellate and has more display methods
• version 3.07 calculates areas and volumes of polyhedra
• version 3.10 larger 3D display window, better saving of files more than once.
  
• version 3.20 (17 Nov 1999) allows long file names for RISC-OS 4; reads PolyData split faces written by !Stellate v 2.00
• version 3.21 (26 Nov 2000) increased dimensions allow all uniform polyhedra on extra data disc 4 to be read. Run size now 420K
• version 3.22 (04 Feb 2000) Fix to 3D face sorting (especially for W54)
• version 3.23 (01 Mar 2001) Released as a demo version which can be upgraded to a full version. Continuous rotations also by [Ctrl] + click over tools pane.

  • Allows changing line widths and 3D window size;
  • immediate printing of 3D image or net through printer driver;
  • interactive help for menus;
  • 'Name' selection case insensitive.
• version 3.25 (19 Dec 2001)
  • Allows changing line and background colours
  • transmits symmetry data for PolySymm
• version 3.26 (22 May 2002)
  • Demo version compatible with VirtualAcorn
  • Concave hinges made visible in 2-D net with white faces
• version 3.27 (21 Nov 2002)
  • Nets changed on many data files to conform with PolyNet convention on face ordering
  • Line widths and colours in Draw files should reflect those on the screen
• version 3.28 (27 Apr 2003) works also under RISCOS 5 on Iyonix
  This version will not read a few of the polyhedra on Extra Data Disc 2. Click here for updates to Extra Disc 2 (size 8K).

• version 1.09 is enlarged to accept all data from !Stellate and allows making tabs on incomplete nets
• version 1.11 allows colouring of faces in saved Draw file and can also print directly using a printer driver
• version 1.13 better saving of files more than once.
  
• version 1.14 (17 Nov 1999) allows long file names for RISC-OS 4; checks for PolyData split faces written by !Stellate v 2.00
• version 1.15 (26 Nov 2000) increased dimensions allow all the non-convex polyhedra on extra data disc 4 to be read; also better checking for overlapping faces. Run size now 384K

  • Four components
  • All uniform polyhedra (Wenninger numbers 1 to 119)
  • 'Split faces' so that 3D images are more likely to be plotted correctly
  • User control of plotted line widths
  • Long file names in RISC-OS 4
• version 2.01 (17 Nov 1999) has 'Front/Back' 3D face colouring (as used in 'The 59 Icosahedra' 3rd edition)
  Note: this version is much bigger than 1.11 and requires 488 Kbytes to run. Generated PolyData files with 'split faces' will not work in !PolyDraw versions earlier than 3.20 and will cause problems in PolyNet versions earlier than 1.14
  
• version 2.12 (29 Jun 2000) makes the duals of all the uniform polyhedra and their stellations; allows changes in 3D display window size
